This policy is part of the KEW website rebuild and should be reviewed against KEW’s final operating model, service providers, contact details and legal requirements before the site goes live.
1. Who we are
Kasi Economic Warriors (“KEW”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is the public-facing organisation behind the KEW website and the wider KEW ecosystem described on this site.
The current public website address is kasieconomicwarrior.africa .
KEW’s confirmed legal contact email, telephone number and physical address are still to be inserted into this policy before publication.
2. Purpose of this policy
This policy explains how KEW intends to process personal information in connection with the public website, enquiries, business services, community participation, membership interest and future connected KEW services.
KEW intends to process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable South African law.
3. Personal information we may collect
Depending on how you interact with KEW, the information collected may include:
- your name and contact details;
- email address and phone or WhatsApp number;
- business or organisation information;
- the content of enquiries, requests or support needs;
- membership or participation information where relevant;
- business profile or marketplace information you choose to provide;
- technical information such as browser, device, IP or website-usage data where enabled;
- information required for legal, security, verification or compliance purposes where applicable; and
- other information you voluntarily provide to KEW.
4. How we may collect information
Personal information may be collected directly from you when you contact KEW, request a service, express interest in a programme, provide business information, participate in an approved activity or use a future connected KEW service.
Information may also be generated through normal website operation, security logs, analytics or service-provider systems where those functions are lawfully enabled and appropriately disclosed.
5. How we may use personal information
KEW may use personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and requests;
- provide or discuss KEW business services;
- manage membership interest and approved onboarding processes;
- support Kasi Market, Letsema, KasiTree or stokvel-related information requests;
- communicate about relevant KEW activities, where permitted;
- maintain service quality, security and website functionality;
- prevent misuse, fraud or unauthorised access;
- meet legal, regulatory, accounting or record-keeping obligations; and
- improve KEW services and user experience where appropriate.
6. Grounds for processing
KEW intends to process personal information only where permitted by law. Depending on the circumstances, this may include processing with your consent, to take steps at your request, to perform an agreement, to comply with a legal obligation, to protect a legitimate interest of a data subject, or for a legitimate operational interest permitted by POPIA.
Where consent is required, you may withdraw that consent, subject to any lawful reason KEW may still have to retain or process particular information.
7. Special personal information and children
KEW does not intend to request special personal information or children’s personal information through the ordinary public website unless there is a lawful, necessary and properly safeguarded reason to do so.
Any future service that requires more sensitive identity, verification, financial or compliance information must apply additional safeguards and the relevant legal and provider rules.
8. Sharing personal information
KEW may share personal information with trusted service providers or professional advisers where this is necessary for an authorised purpose, subject to appropriate confidentiality, security and data protection requirements.
Depending on future services, this may include hosting, email, communications, IT support, identity-verification, payment, fulfilment or other approved platform providers.
KEW does not intend to sell personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law, lawful court order, regulatory process or to protect legal rights and security.
9. Third-party financial and identity providers
Future private KEW or KasiTree functions may rely on third-party providers for payments, identity verification or other regulated services. Those providers may act under their own legal obligations and privacy notices.
The public website must not be treated as evidence that any named or contemplated provider has approved a future KEW financial use case until that approval has actually been obtained.
10. Cross-border processing
If personal information is processed or stored outside South Africa, KEW intends to apply the requirements of POPIA relating to cross-border transfers and use service providers or safeguards that provide an appropriate level of protection.
11. Information security
KEW intends to use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
Security controls must be appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and the actual systems in use. No website or electronic system can guarantee absolute security.
12. Retention
KEW intends to keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, for legitimate operational requirements, or where retention is required or permitted by law.
Information that is no longer required should be deleted, de-identified or securely disposed of where appropriate.
13. Your rights
Subject to POPIA and applicable law, you may have the right to ask whether KEW holds personal information about you and to request access, correction or deletion where appropriate.
You may also have the right to object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing depends on consent, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
14. Cookies and website technologies
The website may use essential browser technologies and may later use analytics or similar tools where appropriately configured and disclosed.
More detail will be set out in the Cookie Policy.
15. Current contact form limitation
In this static website build, the Contact form performs front-end validation only. It does not currently transmit the information to a server, database, email system or CRM.
Before live form submission is enabled, this policy should be checked against the actual form processor, storage location, retention settings and access controls.
16. Third-party websites
The KEW website may contain links to third-party websites or services. KEW is not responsible for the privacy practices of an independent third party. You should review the third party’s own privacy information before providing personal information to it.
17. Changes to this policy
KEW may update this policy when its services, technology, providers or legal obligations change. The updated date at the top of this page should be revised whenever a material change is published.
